Aims and Scope

Mitochondria aims to advance the understanding of mitochondrial biology, from basic mechanisms to clinical implications. The journal provides a platform for studies that explore mitochondrial functions, interactions with cellular organelles, and roles in health and disease.

Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

● The science of mitochondria from all organisms;
● Basic to clinical research of mitochondrial on aging;
● The studies of mitochondria on age-related diseases, such as metabolic syndrome, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and neurodegenerative diseases;
● The mitochondria-related redox biology and medicine;
● Mitochondrial function-regulating factors and processes, such as exercise and sports, nutrition, stress and adaptive responses;
● Mitochondrial genomics and dynamics;
● Interactions between mitochondria, nucleus, endoplasmic reticulum, and other organelles;
● Novel methods for analyzing mitochondrial structure and function.

We welcome Research Article, Review, Short Communication, Perspective, Methods Article, Commentary, Letter to Editor, and Editorial, etc. Mitochondria also publishes themed Special Issues aimed at highlighting recent advances in both basic and clinical fields and also at honoring or memorizing pioneers and outstanding scientists in mitochondrial studies.
