JBDE Awards: Recognizing Excellence in Research and Contributions

To advance architectural and environmental research by fostering academic exchange and knowledge sharing, the Journal of Building Design and Environment (JBDE) has established three categories of awards. These awards aim to recognize outstanding papers and active contributions, encouraging scholars to produce impactful and high-quality research.

Best Paper Award

This award honors authors whose papers published in JBDE demonstrate exceptional academic influence, research impact, and contributions to the journal’s development.

Best Theme Paper Award

To encourage scholars to publish high-quality articles in key areas such as intelligent construction, building materials and structures, and sustainable architecture, JBDE has established the Best Theme Paper Award.

Award Name Thematic Scope
Intelligent Construction Award Topics include smart construction, BIM, 3D printing, digital construction, AI, and automation.
Building Materials & Structures Innovation Award Focuses on novel materials, structural performance, and material-structure integrated design.
Sustainable Construction Award Encourages research on carbon calculation, waste utilization, life cycle assessment, and green building.

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidate papers must have been published in JBDE within the two calendar years prior to the award year (e.g., for the 2027 awards, eligible papers are those published between January 2025 and December 2025)
• Only Research Articles or Review Articles are eligible.
• Authors must have a strong academic reputation with no record of misconduct.

Evaluation Criteria

• Academic Value: The research should demonstrate solid theoretical foundations and contribute significantly to the field of building design and environment.
• Innovation: Proposes novel concepts, methods, or models with breakthroughs in green architecture, environmental simulation, materials, etc.
• Rigor: Well-designed methodology, robust data analysis, and reliable conclusions.
• Presentation Quality: Clear structure, standardized language, intuitive figures/tables, and high readability.
• Impact & Potential: The paper should be cited no less than 10 times in ESCI/SCI-indexed papers within the following year, reflecting strong academic influence.

Selection Process

• The editorial team conducts preliminary screening in January, with results announced in June.
• A maximum of 3 winners are selected annually (the inaugural awards will be announced in 2027). Awards may be withheld if standards are not met.

Rewards

• Certificate: Digital/printed honorary certificate.
• Social Media Promotion: Featured on LinkedIn, WeChat Official Account, and other platforms to enhance visibility.
• Priority Invitation to Conferences: Winners may be invited as speakers at JBDE-hosted forums or round tables.
• Fast-Track Submission Support: Future submissions receive priority review under equal quality conditions.
• Honorarium:
Best Paper Award: 1st place will receive USD 500, 2nd place USD 300, and 3rd place USD 100.
Best Theme Paper Award: USD 200 per winner.

Outstanding Contribution Award

This award recognizes scholars who have made exceptional contributions to the journal's development and academic dissemination, acknowledging their active support in enhancing JBDE's influence and collaboration.

Evaluation Criteria

• Contribution to Submissions: Consistently submitting or inviting high-quality manuscripts.
• Dissemination Efforts: Promoting JBDE through lectures, courses, conferences, or social media.
• Impact Expansion: Actively advocating for the journal and its research.
• Engagement: Participating in special issues, peer review, editorial work, or event organization.

Selection Process

• Annual evaluation based on contributions from the previous year.
• Winners are determined by the editorial team after reviewing nominations (self-recommendations accepted).

Rewards

• Honorary Certificate (digital/printed).
• Featured on journal’s website.
• Promotion on official social media.
• Priority invitations to academic and promotional events.

Award Policies

• Each scholar may receive a maximum of two different awards per year.
• If a candidate qualifies for multiple awards, the committee will assess based on actual contributions, award nature, and distribution fairness.
• For awards with multiple eligible candidates, priority is given to those with greater academic impact, active dissemination, and sustained support for JBDE.
