Dr. Hai-Ning Liang is an Associate Professor in the Computational Media and Arts Thrust at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Prior to joining HKUST-GZ in 2024, he was Professor of Computing at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), where he served as the Head of the Department of Computing and Deputy Director of the Suzhou Municipal Key Lab for Intelligent Virtual Engineering and the XJTLU Virtual Engineering Centre. As an innovative educator, he has been the recipient of several prestigious teaching prizes, including the Suzhou Teaching Achievement Award (First Prize), the Suzhou Teaching Team Award (First Prize), and the XJTLU University Outstanding Teacher Prize. Hai-Ning received his PhD in computer science from the University of Western Ontario in Canada. He does research in human-computer interaction, focusing on the design of novel interaction techniques and applications for virtual/augmented/mixed reality, gaming, and visualization technologies. He has published over 200 papers in top-rated, high-impact conferences and journals. His research won Best Paper and Honorable Mention awards. Hai-Ning is an editorial board member in several journals, including the Visual Computer, Frontiers in Virtual Reality, and International Journal of Serious Games. He is a regular invited speaker at conferences and serves on the organization committee of some of the top conferences in his area of research.
