About the Journal

Empathic Computing is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal, published quarterly and owned by Science Exploration Press. It is a rapidly emerging field of computing concerned with how to create computer systems that better enable people to understand one another and develop empathy. This includes the use of technology such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) to enable people to see what another person is seeing in real time, and overlay communication cues on their field of view. Also, the use of physiological sensors, machine learning and artificial intelligence to develop systems that can recognize what people are feeling and convey emotional or cognitive state to a collaborator. The goal is to combine natural collaboration, implicit understanding, and experience capture/sharing in a way that transforms collaboration. We welcome submissions in various formats, including Research Articles, Review Articles, Technical Notes, Commentaries, Editorials, Letters to the Editor and Perspectives.

Aims and Scope

Empathic Computing is dedicated to advancing the field of computing with a focus on creating systems that enhance human empathy and understanding. Our journal aims to publish high-quality research that explores innovative technologies and methodologies designed to improve interpersonal connections and collaborative experiences. The main areas of interest include but not limit to the following:

● Collaborative AR/VR/MR experiences.
● Using sensors for emotion recognition and sharing.
● Capturing and sharing real environments.
● Machine learning and AI methods for emotion recognition.
● Novel collaborative interfaces.
● Models of emotion and empathy.
● Collaborative systems that recognize and respond to emotional states.
● Evaluation methods for empathic computing.
● Models of communication and collaboration.
● Technologies for conveying emotion and empathy.
● Definitions and taxonomy of AR/VR/XR and empathic systems.
● Literature reviews and scoping studies.
● Other related topics.
