Malindu Sandanayake is an Associate Professor at Victoria University and a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with the Institute of Engineers Australia. Prior to joining Victoria University, he served as a post-doctoral research fellow at RMIT University, where he continues to hold the title of Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering.

Prof. Sandanayake has been awarded several grants from Sustainability Victoria, both as Lead Investigator and Partner Investigator. He has also served as a Chief Investigator on multiple projects, including a major initiative funded by the Victorian Higher Education Strategic Investment Fund to explore the "Digital transformation of the construction industry for improved quality and safety," a project valued at over $1.5 million.

His research expertise spans sustainable materials, green and sustainable construction, life cycle assessment, building information modelling (BIM), smart technologies in construction, and carbon-neutral construction. In recognition of his significant contributions to sustainability in construction, he was honored with the 2022 Vice Chancellor's Award in the "Sustainability" category.

Prof. Sandanayake has authored numerous high-impact journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and technical reports. He is an experienced research supervisor with a keen interest in building information modelling, sustainable construction, smart technologies, circular economy practices, and waste-to-value research in the construction industry. He has also delivered keynote speeches, led research workshops, and presented at various academic conferences.
