Special Issue Information

Digital transformation in construction refers to the integration of advanced digital technologies into all aspects of the construction process to enhance efficiency, productivity, safety, and sustainability. It involves adopting technologies, such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, digital twins, and augmented reality to modernize workflows, improve decision-making, and optimize project outcomes. Digital transformation is reshaping the construction industry but also bring about new challenges, such as high implementation costs, interoperability issues, regulatory gaps, workforce readiness, and data security risks. Resistance to change, lack of skilled workers, and regulatory gaps further complicate adoption.

This Special Issue, Digital Transformation in Construction: Innovations and Challenges, will explore the innovation and challenges in the construction digital transformation process. Contributions will include original research, case studies, and reviews that will highlight innovative applications, assess their impact on project efficiency and sustainability, and propose solutions to challenges, such as cybersecurity threats, workforce training needs, and ethical issues. Submissions must meet the journal’s rigorous standards and contribute to advancing digital transformation in construction.

Keywords of the Special Issue include but are not limited to:
• BIM for enhanced project collaboration
• AI in construction planning and optimization
• Predictive maintenance
• IoT applications for real-time construction monitoring
• Robotics, computer vision and automation
• Digital twins
• Cybersecurity challenges
• Blockchain for transparent construction supply chains
• Augmented and virtual reality in design and training
• Sustainable construction through digital technologies
• Workforce upskilling for digital transformation
• Regulation for digital transformation
