Special Issue Information
The rapid development of Building Information Modeling (BIM) has fundamentally transformed construction and facility management, fostering a new era of smart, digitally driven project execution and operational excellence. Central to this transformation, BIM integrates digital representations of physical and functional characteristics, providing a comprehensive digital environment for intelligent planning, design, construction, and operation. These digital platforms empower industry stakeholders to optimize workflows, enhance collaboration, and significantly improve decision-making accuracy.
However, despite BIM's transformative potential, substantial challenges persist, particularly in effectively integrating BIM with emerging technologies and ensuring seamless interoperability throughout the project lifecycle. Efficient data management, real-time analytics, and the integration of BIM with IoT, AI, and automation technologies are crucial for maximizing value and operational efficiency in the built environment.
This Special Issue (SI) aims to highlight cutting-edge research and practical advancements in BIM-driven smart construction and operations. The issue invites contributions exploring innovative applications of BIM technology integrated with Industry 4.0 technologies, including IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, and advanced simulation tools. Emphasis will be placed on how these integrations enhance efficiency, sustainability, safety, and lifecycle performance within construction and infrastructure management.
Articles will address both theoretical developments and practical implementations, offering valuable insights for academics, industry professionals, engineers, and decision-makers. By examining current trends, technological innovations, and addressing associated challenges, this SI aims to advance the understanding and practical deployment of BIM-driven solutions for smart construction and operational management.
