Special Issue Information

Technological advancements such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics have significantly enhanced the conceptualization, planning, and execution of construction projects, contributing to improved sustainability. Recent innovations across the construction industry are equally remarkable, spanning various types of infrastructure and built assets. Furthermore, the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) introduces transformative opportunities, bringing new perspectives to the construction sector and other industries.

The inherent complexity of construction projects and the involvement of multiple stakeholders across different phases present unique challenges, including cost overruns, delays, and safety-related issues. Despite recorded improvements in construction project outcomes in recent decades, persistent challenges in safety, performance, and sustainability remain. These challenges highlight the need for advanced tools, methodologies, and techniques to address construction inefficiencies, improve outcomes, and facilitate informed decision-making to mitigate risks.

This Special Issue (SI) aims to explore innovative concepts, methodologies, techniques, and technologies that advance the delivery of sustainable construction projects. It seeks to highlight the collaborative contributions of academia and industry practitioners in transforming the sustainable construction landscape. By uncovering novel insights and approaches, this SI aspires to expand the boundaries of knowledge and drive meaningful advancements within the construction industry.
