EXO – Beyond the Cell: A New Journal Led by U.S. National Academy of Medicine Member Professor Brent R. Stockwell
On October 1, 2025, Science Exploration Press is pleased to announce the official launch of its new open-access journal, EXO – Beyond the Cell (EXO). EXO is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing high-impact research that explores how cells interact with their environments, encompassing spatial biology, systems biology, and translational applications across biomedicine. By bridging molecular, cellular, and organismal scales, EXO aims to define the next frontier of life sciences.
Professor Brent R. Stockwell
We are honored to welcome Professor Brent R. Stockwell as the founding Editor-in-Chief of EXO. Professor Stockwell is Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences and Professor of Chemistry at Columbia University. He is internationally recognized for pioneering discoveries in regulated cell death, metabolism, and chemical biology, including his groundbreaking work on ferroptosis. His leadership in integrating biology, chemistry, and medicine continues to shape fundamental and translational research worldwide.
EXO publishes a wide range of article types, including original research articles, methodological and technical innovations, reviews, perspectives, short communications, and letters. The journal operates as a quarterly, gold open-access journal, ensuring that all content is freely accessible to readers worldwide. To encourage broad participation, article processing charges (APCs) are fully waived until 2030.
EXO is now open for submissions and welcomes contributions that will shape the future of biology and medicine.
